Harvest

Many of the origins of straw craft can be linked back to harvest time.  People were superstitious and believed by carrying out certain customs and traditions they would increase their chances of a successful harvest.

The straw used for straw craft is now mainly grown with the intension of being used in the thatching industry.  The straw is cut before it is fully ripe, usually with a binder and stood out in the fields to dry.  This ensures the straw is strong and flexible, this is ideal for the the straw craftsmen!

Below are some images and videos of people harvesting and as always we would love any old harvesting photos you might wish to share...Contact us!
